Ganderbal, Oct 31: Parents of students at Hill Top Educational Institute, Ganderbal, have raised serious concerns over the alleged practice of compelling students to purchase textbooks from a particular designated bookseller, reportedly at prices higher than those available elsewhere.
The parents alleged that they were being directed to purchase prescribed textbooks from a specific bookseller, leaving them with limited choice and adding to the financial burden on families.
The allegations have sparked concern among parents, who have sought intervention from the education authorities and demanded transparency in the school’s textbook procurement and distribution practices.
Taking note of the matter, the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Ganderbal, has assured that the allegations will be examined and that appropriate action will be taken if any violation of government norms is established.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Sakina Itoo has reiterated that parents should have the freedom to purchase school textbooks from any bookseller of their choice.
The minister made it clear that private schools are required to follow government directions and cannot allegedly compel parents to purchase books exclusively from a particular vendor.
The issue has once again brought the spotlight on the need for strict implementation of government guidelines governing private educational institutions, particularly regarding textbooks, uniforms and other school-related purchases.
Parents have urged the concerned authorities to ensure that no student or family is subjected to undue pressure or financial burden in the name of compulsory textbook purchases.
The authorities are expected to verify the allegations and take necessary action based on the findings of the inquiry.
