Srinagar, Oct 23 : The government is considering to reduce the documentation charges of new vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir from nine percent to five percent. The proposal in this regard has been sent to the higher authorities 15 days ago and fresh directions is awaited.
The development comes days after the transporters from Jammu hit the streets against the government’s decision of increasing the charges from documents of new vehicles.
Sources privy to the development told the wire service that the officials in the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have sent a proposal to the Civil Secretariat for the reduction of document charges for new vehicles.
They said that the proposal has been sent to the higher officials almost 15 days back, adding that they are hopeful that the decision in this regard will be taken soon after the bi-annual Darbar Move.
Sources further added that the people buying new vehicles from different places are being charged nine percent of the total cost of the vehicles, which has left them anguished. “A person who buys new vehicle is being asked to pay nine percent of the total cost of the vehicle for completing the documentation work and to get a new registration number of the vehicle,” they said.
They added that the owners of the new vehicles were not affording to pay hefty amount to get completed the documentation work, thus leaving them anguished.
It is also learnt from the sources that the transporters from Jammu region have recently met the Advisor K Vijay Kumar in Jammu and have sought his intervention in reducing the documentation charges.
They further told that the Advisor Kumar has assured the delegation that their grievance will be resolved soon.
After being assured, the RTO office here have sent a proposal to the concerned officials in this regard, adding that the government would likely reduce the documentation charges for new vehicles from nine percent to five percent soon after the bi-annual Darbaar move takes place. (KNO)
