Srinagar, Jan 02 : The daughter of incarcerated former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti was on Thursday put under house detention after she tried to visit the graveyard of her grandfather and former chief minister J&K Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.

According to the wire service—Iltija Mufti, daughter of Mehbooba was scheduled to visit mausoleum of her grandfather today in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

She was scheduled to visit graveyard of her grandfather days ahead of his fourth death anniversary on January 07.

However, she claimed that she was barred from moving out of her residence at Gupkar road in Srinagar, adding that “I approached to the concerned authorities to get permission to visit the mausoleum of my grandfather, but the permission was denied.”

This denial of permission from the authorities comes a day after National Conference (NC) General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar and his son Salman Sagar were allowed to attend the funeral of Sagar’s father-in-law.

The daughter of Mehbooba in the meantime has decided to knock the doors of court in case she will not be allowed to move out of her residence.  She further stated that she wanted to address media persons today, but was not allowed to hold a presser.

Condemning the action of authorities, she said that she was not holding any protest but wanted to visit graveyard of her grandfather.

Pertinently, several leaders including three former chief ministers—Dr. Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are undergoing house detention since August 5, when the central government announced the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status (Article 370) and bifurcation of erstwhile State into two Union Territories—Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. (KNO)
