Baramulla: A family in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday alleged that Tehsildar Watergam beat their son in his office.
As per the reports, Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Chatipora Achabal had gone to visit the Tehsildar Watergam Kifayat Ali in his office to sort out an issue over the disputed land. However, the family members alleged that Ashiq Hussain was allegedly beaten up by the officer.
Talking to Kashmir Despatch, Ashiq Hussain said, “I am COVID-19 patient and I was undergoing quarantine along with my family. However, my father was summoned by the police and he was released later.”
He said he went to the office of Tehsildar Watergam wherein he narrated that from last more than one decade they were trying to purchase land in front of house but failed as there is Nallah which flows near their house, which is causing a problem.
Ashiq alleged that Tehsildar did not read any of their documents and asked him why he had put a gate on the land.
“I replied that there is a flow of water and my children could fall into it. The Tehsildar used unparliamentary language against me and my family and told that he will kill me. He thrashed me and I also received injuries”.
Ashiq claimed he was later rushed to Sopore Sub-District-Hospital for treatment.
A doctor at Sopore hospital confirmed Kashmir Despatch, “Yes we received one injured person, after proper treatment, he was discharged.”
Talking to Kashmir Despatch, Kifayat Ali Tehsildar Watergam termed all allegations baseless. He said, “It was a small issue and the one who has put allegations against me created a scene in my office and now he is doing this drama.”
He added,” If I had beaten him then he has every right to register an FIR against me. Also, I have informed my senior officials as they will look into the matter while stern action will be taken against the person.”
A police officer told Kashmir Despatch that a team has visited the spot and are investigating the whole incident.
