Srinagar, August 10: IAS officer-turned-politician Dr Shah Faesal has stepped down as president of his party, J&K People’s Movement (JKPM) on Monday.
“Dr Shah Faesal had informed State Executive Members that he is not in a position to continue with political activities and wants to be freed from the responsibilities of the organisation. Keeping in view this request, it was decided to accept his request so that he can better continue with his life and contribute whichever way he chooses,” read the JKPM statement.
The Committee, the statement added, also accepted the resignation of Chairman Javed Mustafa Mir and accorded farewell to him.
Javed Mustafa Mir a veteran political figure of the J&K has been under house arrest since August 5, 2019.
Faesal Sunday removed from his Twitter bio his designation as the president of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), a party he had founded after leaving the civil services in 2019.
Reliable sources told Kashmir Despatch that former IAS officer turned politician, Shah Faesal is likely to join back administration after he was conveyed by authorities that his resignation has not still been accepted.
Meanwhile, newly appointed President JKPM Feroze Peerzada in a telephonic conversation with Kashmir Despatch said “I’m not sure whether Dr Shah Faesal will rejoin administration but he disassociated himself from JKPM and day-to-day politics of J&K”,.
“Maybe he will go for further studies as he is fond of acquiring knowledge”, he added.
Feroze said that Dr Shah Faesal had resigned from Government service and joined politics for a change on the ground in J&K. “I think he got disappointed after the government of India abrogated Article 370 and 35(A) on August 5, 2019,”.
“The political mainstream in Kashmir has been razed to the ground. There is a vast difference between politics of pre-August 2019 and today.”, Peerzada added.
