Apply Minimum Wages Act; Release their pending wages: Javid Baig
SRINAGAR, September 15: Apni Party spokesman Javid Baig on Tuesday demanded immediate regularization of daily rated, casual labourers, consolidated and ITI trained workers and other non permanent employees working in different government departments for the last over a decade in J&K.
In a statement issued here, Baig urged the government not to delay their regularization any further as the same is adding to the woes of their respective families.
He said that thousands of such employees are working in different departments in J&K for the last over 15 years and are eagerly waiting for their regularization. “I appeal, the Honb’le Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to look into this critical humanitarian issue passionately,” the JKAP leader pleaded.
He said the J&K government must talk to the representatives of the casual and daily rated workers and try to allay their apprehensions with regard to new recruitment policy and address their other genuine grievances.
Baig said the administration must also understand the difficulties faced by the families of these workers who have no money to manage their day-to-day affairs amid the prevailing COVID pandemic.
“These hapless workers who are working in various engineering departments like Jal Shakti department, Power Development Department, Public Works Department etc have been running from pillar to post for their regularization but to no avail,” he added.
Fed up with the insensitivity of the successive Governments, Baig remarked that the daily wagers were genuinely left with no alternative but to resort to a confrontational path which is not in the interest of public welfare.
He said that all the casual labourers working in different Government departments are technically sound and they deserve to be paid the minimum wages as warranted under labour law. “The present government must pay and treat them at the same scale which is paid to their counterparts in other UTs of the country,” he demanded.
Apni Party spokesman said that thousands of need based, casual labourers, Housing Board PDLs, daily rated workers, NYC, HDF workers, consolidated, contingency paid employees, ITI and skilled workers, contractual and adhoc appointees working in various departments want an end to their exploitation the present dispensation in J&K should understand their pain and redress their woes.
