Sopore, Jan 04: Amid snowfall, residents in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Monday staged a protest demonstration to highlight the water crisis in their area for one week.
As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, braving chilly weather scores of women of Takiabal and Mohalla Sheikh Sahib of Sopore assembled at Iqbal market, up in arms against Jal Shakti department for their failure to restore water supply in these areas since past one week.
The protesting women said talking to Kashmir Despatch said that it’s very hard to move from one place to another in this harsh and chilly weather for a bucket of water, they said that the department was forcing them to consume filthy water from rivers and streams.
The protesting women said that we have approached the concerned officials of the Jal-Shakti department several times but our repeated pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Meanwhile Exn. Jal Shakti department Sopore Division Ghulam Rasool said that the continuous breakdown of electricity leads to the shortage of water in these areas. He said the department is working to restore the water supply in these areas soon.
