Covid-19 vaccination drive starts in Ladakh

Ladakh, Jan 16 : The first phase of Covid-19 vaccination commenced in UT Ladakh on Saturday where Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur inaugurated the vaccination drive at Heart found hospital in Leh.

Top health official from Ladakh said that around 100 health care and sanitation workers were given vaccines on day one.

He said that a Safai Karamchari of SNM hospital Leh was the first to take a jab in the presence of Lt. Governor.

Lt. Governor speaking on the occasion appreciated the medical staff, ASHA, Anganwadi and Safai workers of UT Ladakh for their selfless efforts and dedication in handling the pandemic of Covid-19.

He hoped for the successful conduct of the vaccination drive-in Ladakh by the medical team so that it leads to the betterment of the economy.

“As a priority group, the medical staff at high risk will be vaccinated in the first phase, he said.

“As emphasized by PM, even after getting vaccinated, one must adhere to all the safety precautions of Covid-19 and maintain the complete discipline to ensure a Covid free society,” Mathur said.

Mathur appealed to people not to fear the side effects of the vaccines or believe in the rumours about it.

“I urge all to trust the assurances given by expert scientists, doctors and regulatory authorities on its safety,” he said.

CEC, LAHDC, Leh Tashi Gyaltson; MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial; Advisor Umang Narula; Commissioner/ Secretary Health Rigzin Samphel; DC, Leh Sachin Kumar; Director Health Tsering Angchuk; CMO Health, other senior officers, doctors and staff of the Health Department were present on the occasion. CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan attended the function through video conferencing.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ladakh received 11,500 Covishield vaccines on Wednesday which were equally distributed between Leh and Kargil—(KNO)
