New Delhi : A well-known Islamic scholar and Padma Vibhushan awardee Maulana Wahiduddin Khan dies of Covid at Apollo Hospital Sarita Vihar on Wednesday night.
Moulana was founder of Islamic Centre in New Delhi. He passed away in Delhi due to Covid-19 complications. Moulana was world wide known for his brilliant contributions in the field of Islamic literature.
Born in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh in 1925 Wahiduddin khan was listed in 500 most influential muslims of the world. He was known with the honorific “Moulana” and was a peace activist who had translated Quran into English, Hindi and Urdu.
He was also Islamic spiritual leader , speaker and author of over 200 books. He had received many awards including Padma Vibhushan award, India’s second-highest civilian honour in January this year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sadness over the death of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and said he will be remembered for his insightful knowledge on matters of theology and spirituality.
“Saddened by the passing away of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan. He will be remembered for his insightful knowledge on matters of theology and spirituality. He was also passionate about community service and social empowerment. Condolences to his family and countless well-wishers. RIP,” PM Modi tweeted.
