Sopore Residents protest lack of water supply

Sopore, April 26 : With the gradual rise in temperature, the demand for water has started peaking in several areas across north Kashmir.
Many areas in North Kashmir districts are facing a drastic shortage of drinking water from last month. It is not for the first time that the residents of Baramulla, Bandipora, are facing acute water scarcity during the summer season especially during this holly month of Ramadan, but such a situation had been witnessed in the past as well.
Latest reports reaching from Sopore town where people staged a protest against acute scarcity of drinking water.
As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, The residents of Hathishah Sopore are accusing the Jal Shakti department of their failure in restoring water crisis in the area amid holly month of Ramazan.
“We are facing immense problems due to acute scarcity of drinking water. Even some areas of north Kashmir have protested against this crisis but it is ironic that the concerned authorities are giving a deaf ear to this grave issue,” said Saijda Begum.
The protesting women said that they face lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. Even in this Ramzan we are without drinking water and the concerned authorities don’t pay attention to us.
After police party reached the spot the protest was ended on peaceful note.
Talking with Kashmir Despatch the officials at Jal Shakti department assured that the water crisis in the area will be restored at earliest.
