The Sopore police station has imposed fine of 1 lac 60 thousand on people since the lockdown in April 2021 against offenders of Covid protocols, the police said.
The police also informed that fines amounting to Rs 25000 were collected from the violators today on June 3 in Sopore market.
Face masks were made compulsory for everyone in Sopore since lockdown was imposed and not wearing one was made a punishable offence. Government also allowed shopkeepers to open their shops on odd even basis and not adhering to official orders was made a punishable offence.
So far the police have acted against people in markets and crowded places, containment zones and streets.
Shopkeepers, two wheelers and car owners were also booked for not adhering to government laid guidelines to stop the spread of corona virus, police said.
“Amid surge in Covid cases, strict instructions were issued to shopkeepers and people dealing with business to follow odd even formula to run their shops with proper SOPs. But there are few shopkeepers who were seen violating the norms and they were fined accordingly,” a police official said.
Several police teams have been deployed across the town to keep an eye on offenders.
Police teams deployed aren’t only issuing challans but also are making people aware about the seriousness of the deadly virus.
“We urge people to stay indoors and not step outside unnecessarily. The police will also take prompt action against those who break Covid-19 norms and don’t follow odd even formula while running their businesses,” the police officer said.
