Sopore : The Jammu and Kashmir police dismissed reports that its personnel fired indiscriminately in Sopore after militants attacked a police party in which 2 cops and 2 civilians were killed.
A police official in Sopore told Kashmir Despatch that the police team was on covid duty when it came under heavy firing in main market of the Sopore leaving two policemen dead and two injured.
“The militants fired indiscriminately on the police vehicle which led to the death of two of our policemen and 2 civilians. Two other policemen who were inside the vehicle are injured and battling for their lives,” the police official said.
Earlier in a purported video uploaded by some social media pages, relatives of the civilians killed in the attack can be seen blaming police for killing the civilians.
The police official while appealing media person to state the facts said that how can an injured person lying in a pool of blood inside a vehicle fire on civilians and kill them.
“The militants fired indiscriminately on the police vehicle and in the attack these civilians also got killed. The attack was so abrupt that police couldn’t even retaliate” he added.
The police officer appealed the locals to maintain peace in the town and don’t let anti social and anti national elements to gain leverage of this incident.
