Bandipora, July 30: The Drug Control Department on Thursday sealed the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra operating at District Hospital (DH) Bandipora after finding that it was allegedly functioning with an expired drug licence.
According to official sources, the licence of the medical outlet had expired and was not renewed within the six-month grace period permitted under the applicable rules. Despite the expiry of the licence, the outlet was reportedly continuing its operations.
Acting on the violation, the Drug Inspector conducted an inspection and seized the medical store for operating without a valid licence.
Sources said that once the prescribed renewal period lapses, the licence cannot be renewed. The operator will now be required to apply for a fresh drug licence under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules before the outlet can resume operations.
The action has raised concerns among local residents, who questioned how a government-supported medicine outlet located within the premises of the District Hospital continued to operate despite the expiry of its licence. They urged the authorities to examine the matter and ensure strict monitoring of regulatory compliance at healthcare facilities.
Officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the action. Further proceedings will be taken in accordance with the law.
