BANDIPORA, Mar 8: Damaged in 2014 snowfall, Government middle school with more than fifty students on roll, is awaiting repair at Abdulin village of Tulail in Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
“Our students are taking classes in the open air in this freezing cold, around five feet of snow has accumulated in the plains. We had requested several times from higher authorities, but in vain,” Mohammad Niyaz, a local resident, said while speaking with Kashmir Despatch.
The residents alleged that the education sector is suffering continuously in the valley in terms of staff shortage and other basic facilities.
“Our most of the population here is uneducated, but somehow we managed expenses for our children to provide them basic education, but government is least bothered about poor peoples, we have been only used as vote bank by politicians also,” Abdul Rahim a local resident said whose son is enrolled in school.
“We are happy with early opening of schools this year in our snow bounded valley of Gurez, but we lack washroom, playground and other basic facilities continuously in our school. The roof of our school building had been damaged 9 years ago, government fails to repair it,” Tabsum a 6th class student said.
The locals appealed district Administration Bandipora and LG Manoj Sinha,to intervene in this matter and repair the school building as soon as possible, so that the students can continue their studies
Meanwhile, when contacted, SDM Gurez said that he will look into the matter at the earliest.
