Srinagar: Aijaz Hussain Malik, a 2013 batch KAS officer from North Kashmir has started his fitness YouTube channel—”Health is Wealth_Aijaz”, where he frequently uploads videos of his fitness regimen and gives tips about health and wellness.

Malik’s love for fitness took an enthusiastic turn after he met a tragic accident last year in October which lead to a fractured dislocated shoulder. Malik had to undergo a surgery following which he was bed-ridden and recommended not to move his shoulder for at least six months by his Orthopaedic surgeon.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch, KAS officer Malik said that life had come to a halt after the accident. “I was so depressed that I was prescribed anti-depressants.” Malik would visit his Physiotherapist everyday for rehabilitation. However, after the lockdown was announced following pandemic, he couldn’t keep up with the physiotherapy routine.
“Somehow, I didn’t let my morale go down and started reading motivational literature. Gradually I started exercising at home,” says Malik.

In the meantime, Malik thought of creating his own YouTube channel (Health is Wealth_Aijaz). “The idea of creating a YouTube channel came to my mind during one of the routine visits to my physiotherapist who applauded me for the last bit of patience and strength I was left with post every session. Mentally it was extremely disturbing to witness other patients going through excruciating pain session after session, day after day, besides me. “So I thought of sharing my experiences with others.” However, that thought didn’t materialize until recently when I posted a video where I attempted to do Push-ups. The video was received well by many who were aware about my injury. I also received many messages from people who had suffered similar injuries and were scared to try anything on their own, let alone Push-ups. This motivated me to start exercising again, but this time with a different purpose – for the sake of health. The accident helped me realise the importance of health. I came to understand that health is the only wealth in real sense.

Malik added that by exercising he has recovered to a great extent. “Besides my family, my wife has been my strength and the greatest motivation during these tough times.”

Malik said that it has been about two months since he actually started shooting parts of his workout regimen and uploading them on YouTube Channel. He said, “I receive a lot of encouraging messages from people and some criticism as well. That criticism will come along I knew for sure. But then, the positive outcomes are so vivid and obvious that I don’t pay any heed to criticism. As they say, “only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches.”

“I want to be an inspiration for people who have met such accidents and given up on recovery. When I can jump back to life after such a complicated surgery with two lifelong implants in my shoulder, others too can. Hope is the only assuage of man, they say, but you can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.”

As of now, Malik has uploaded videos about his daily workout and Motivation. In the coming days, he intends to include motivational talks, interviews, and other things related to health and life. SO STAY TUNED to Health is Wealth_Aijaz
