Baramulla, Oct 14– Aarifeen School of Excellence, Delina Baramulla, conducted an insightful webinar on mental health and mindful parenting, featuring active participation from parents who engaged by asking thought-provoking questions.
The webinar, led by Ms. Monica Nakra, a certified psychologist from Johns Hopkins University and an associate professor at Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth, Faridabad, offered valuable guidance on fostering a healthy parent-child relationship.
Ms. Monica emphasized the importance of attentive listening without judgment when children speak, noting that children often imitate their parents’ behavior.
“Parents need to be mindful of how they act and speak in front of their children,” she advised.
She also discussed the joint responsibility of parents and teachers in a child’s development, highlighting a 60:40 role ratio.
“Active parental participation is crucial for raising happy and successful children, a belief we uphold at ASE,” she said.
Ms. Nakra stressed the significance of collaboration between parents and educators, as children respond positively to encouragement from both.
She urged parents to stop comparing their children, avoid harsh judgments, and instead offer rewards and emotional support.
She also underscored the importance of time management, advising parents to prioritize family time over distractions such as mobile phones, television, and social media.
“Your children need emotional nurturing in addition to physical care,” she said.
The session concluded with Ms. Nakra addressing questions from ASE parents and staff members.
The event was hosted by Ms. Aaliya, an educator at Aarifeen School of Excellence.
During the session, Dr. Hanan Khalid Khan, the principal of Aarifeen School of Excellence, emphasized the necessity of these webinars, stating, “In today’s fast-paced world, understanding mental health is crucial for both parents and students. These sessions are essential for our community, as they provide valuable insights and coping strategies.”
Participants engaged in discussions about mindfulness techniques, effective communication, and the importance of emotional support within families.
Dr. Hanan announced that the school plans to host similar webinars in the future, aiming to create an ongoing dialogue about mental health and to equip families with the tools they need to navigate challenges.
“We are committed to fostering a supportive environment for our students and their families,” the principal of ASE said.
“By providing access to these resources, we hope to promote mental wellness and build a more resilient community,” he added.
