SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Nov 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case against Malik Tahir Gani, Director, State Motor Garages, following allegations that he accumulated wealth grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The action comes after a secret verification that revealed extensive property holdings spread across Srinagar and Jammu.
According to the ACB, the verification was initiated on the basis of specific information alleging that Malik Tahir Gani, son of Abdul Gani Malik, resident of Sanat Nagar Srinagar and currently residing at Government Quarter No. 55-C, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, possessed enormous assets far beyond his legitimate earnings. Gani, who has served in key positions including ARTO Anantnag, ARTO Pulwama, and Director State Motor Garages, had reportedly raised substantial assets over the years.
The Bureau’s preliminary probe found that the officer had acquired several properties — including residential plots, houses, shops, and shopping complexes — in his name and in the names of his family members and close relatives. Multiple bank accounts were also discovered, collectively reflecting wealth that investigators assessed to be “highly disproportionate” to his official income.
On the basis of these findings, the ACB concluded that a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was established under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Consequently, FIR No. 11/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Central for a full-scale investigation.
Following the registration of the case, the ACB approached the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, and secured search warrants. Subsequent raids were carried out at four locations associated with Gani, including his residential house at Sanat Nagar Srinagar, another residence at Hyderpora Srinagar, his allotted quarter in Gandhi Nagar Jammu, and his official premises at New Plot, Jammu.
During the searches, the investigating teams recovered and seized incriminating documents and material, which officials say will form crucial evidence in the ongoing probe.
An ACB spokesperson confirmed that further investigation is underway and more revelations are expected as scrutiny of the seized records progresses.
The case has once again brought the spotlight on corruption in government departments, particularly in key public offices that handle large-scale public assets and logistics.
