Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Deputy Director of Law Enforcement in Srinagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the ACB, a complaint was received alleging that the accused official had demanded a bribe in connection with an official matter.
Following verification of the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau laid a trap to catch the official while accepting the alleged bribe.
The operation was carried out by the ACB team in Srinagar, following which the Deputy Director was arrested.
The bureau has registered a case and initiated further investigation into the matter. Further details regarding the alleged demand, the amount involved and the circumstances of the trap are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The ACB has reiterated its appeal to citizens to report demands for illegal gratification by public servants and said complaints can be submitted through its official channels.
