There was a time when Kashmir was considered a crime free place and everyone felt consciously secure from being robbed, murdered or raped. The elders would pridefully say that Kashmir is the valley of Peer’s and Reshi’s, a blessed land where evil ceases to exist. But that has not remained the same now.
It appears that something has changed here and the very pristine social structure is deteriorating from inside whose reflections are clear from such heinous acid attacks that have shaken the spines of common people.
This cannot be easily termed as a barbaric act but rather it is a representation of the collective rot our society is undergoing through. The presence of such vicious elements in any human culture has always been detrimental to the values and ethics that might have cherished and bolstered prosperity in a society at some point of time.
We should question ourselves about the crime of this young lady for which she was punished so inhumanely? She had only ventured to walk outside her house but murderous culprits, who have lost their very basic humanness, lurked in dark to cowardly destroy the life and dreams of their victim.
Lately, Kashmir has witnessed a considerable rise in crimes against women especially in form of minor rapes, atrocities & murders committed by in-laws and now acid attacks.
The people regardless of their religious, ethical and political outlooks must unanimously raise voice against these acts of belligerence where the very sanctity of human life and dignity of women in a society is being challenged by such malicious chauvinists whose tainted pedigree needs to be delivered stern punishment in order to set an example for those who think that even after committing such monstrous crime they can get away easily. Justice needs to be delivered promptly to set an example.
