After ‘biting off’ a colleague’s ear, Pattan teacher suspended

BARAMULLA, Feb. 25: The authorities on Saturday suspended a Government school teacher for allegedly biting off a colleague’s ear in north Kashmir’s Pattan area earlier this week.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that on the basis of recommendations by the Zonal Education Officer Pattan, the accused teacher, Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Teacher-Grade IInd at MS Shah Mohalla Buchoo, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect, in terms of Rule 31 of J&K CSR-1956.

He further said that during the period of suspension, Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani would remain attached to the office of the Chief Education Officer in Baramulla.

The Chief Education Officer (CEO), Baramulla Chaman Lal Sharma, also confirmed this development to Kashmir Despatch and said that on the recommendations of the Zonal Education Officer Pattan, the step has been taken. The officer further said there is no place for such teachers in the education field and the department will be very strict against those who break laws.

An unfortunate incident occurred in Pattan’s Buchoo area when a scuffle between two teachers resulted in one of them allegedly chopping off his colleague’s ear.

The injured teacher was immediately taken to the local hospital for treatment.
