SRINAGAR, August 13: Ahead of opening of religious places in Kashmir, DC Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Chowdhary said that, “we had a meeting with about 3000 heads of different religious institutions in Kashmir and discussed the Standard Operating Procedures SOP’s which are to be adopted after re-opening of religious places.”
Dr. Chowdhury told Kashmir Despatch that these guidelines or SOPs are meant for peoples safety and the administration is hopeful that the religious heads will adhere to these COVID guidelines.
He added that his appeal to people is that to take precautions as much they can while visiting the religious places which witness huge gatherings. “The authorities are fully prepared but if SOPs are followed seriously things will get easier for the government and the people.”
Dr. Chowdhury said that earlier when the markets were allowed to open people did not follow the guidelines and that is why there was a sharp spike in covid-19 cases and the authotities were forced to impose the lockdown again.
Pertinently, The government had previously announced that the markets and religious places will be allowed to function normally from 16th of August only after adopting the SOPs.
