Allowing EU MPs against policy of GoI: PDP

Date:

Will meet party president; formulate strategy to challenge scrapping of Art 370: Mahajan

Srinagar, Oct 29 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday criticized the government for allowing the European Parliament members to visit Kashmir, terming it as against the policy of Government of India.

PDP General Secretary, Ved Mahajan talking to the wire service –said that the policy of government of India is that there should be no third party intervention and at the same time, a step against the policy is taking place where a delegation of European Parliamentarians is being allowed to visit Kashmir.

“The US president Donald Trump has offered mediation several times so far, but the government rejected by claiming that it doesn’t want third party intervention,” he said, adding that even the leaders from the soil are not being allowed to visit Kashmir and these leaders from outside Country have got permission to visit Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming the decision of allowing EU MP’s to visit Kashmir as the dual policy of the government, he told that the government must allow the party leaders and other leaders of the country to visit Kashmir.

Asked about the party’s strategy to challenge the repealing of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status (Article 370) on August 5, Mahajan said, “We are not able to meet our leader. Let us meet our leader first following which a strategy will be formulated in this regard.”

He also demanded the immediate release of detained mainstream leaders including the party president, Mehbooba Mufti, who have been put under detention from August 05, 2019, when the government in centre abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. (KNO)
