SRINAGAR, December 30:Former education minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday felicitated students who qualified the 10th standard annual examination and complimented the government run schools for remarkable improvement in their performance.

Expressing great satisfaction over the performance shown by the government schools who have been the major gainers this year with an improvement from 46.70 percent to 63.71 percent, the former education minister appreciated the consistent efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents that has made it possible.

“During my tenure as the education minister in the state, we would time and again reiterate that the government teachers possess the requisite qualification, expertise and are full of talent to change the destiny of students of the state. And today these results vindicate my stand,” Bukhari observed.

The former minister hailed the students especially from South Kashmir for their brilliant performance despite facing the turbulent security situation throughout their academic session.

“I whole heartedly compliment the students of Kashmir especially those belonging to Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts who witnessed the highest number of strikes and huge disturbances this year. But defying all odds many of them topped the class 10thexamination which exhibits the potential of our children to make it possible,” Bukhari remarked.

He also complimented the parents and the civil society for their encouraging role that has resulted into visible improvement in the educational standards of the government schools over the past couple of years. “The latest results are reassuring and speak volumes that despite having unfortunate and tragic disturbances in Kashmir, our students and teachers have put in their best efforts to make up for the losses,” he said.

Referring to the pass percentage that has increased from 62.94 percent to 75.44 percent this year, Bukhari said that this trend shall continue and the only thing needed is the motivation and encouragement, to bring about the much-needed turn around in the academic environment especially in our government schools.

While hailing the painstaking efforts of the education department particularly the directorate of school education Kashmir in streamlining the education scenario in government run schools, Bukhari stressed on the need of providing quality education with constant monitoring and mentoring, uncompromising academic quality and individual attention to students to be adopted as the guiding principles of the education sector. Bukhari also hailed the State Board of School education for declaring the results within stipulated time period.

He expressed optimism that in the coming years, the students of the Government-run schools would be seen occupying the top positions in almost all academic and competitive merit lists at state, national and international levels.
