Ganderbal: The residents of Anderwan Dursuma of Central Kashmir Ganderbal district on Monday staged a protest against overcharging of passenger fare by cabs while blocking Leh highway road.

Locals have accused local transport and sumo drivers of overcharging on the Ganderbal route. The locals have accused authorities of negligence.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch, Syed Anwar said, “It has become a routine now, local bus drivers and sumo drivers are charging fare as per the own wish that too despite rates being fixed by the local administration”.

He added, “Local transport drivers don’t listen to anyone and if you try to confront they won’t let you sit inside the vehicle”.

“For instance, if we have to travel 5 kilometres, transporters would charge around 40 to 50 rupees which are higher than rates that government has put forth and today we are protesting over the issue as no one is paying to heed to this issue”, said Ghulam Nabi another resident”.

“Through this protest, we want to convey to higher authorities that enough is enough. The officials from Road Transport department should come forward and readdress the issue”, he added.

Despite repeated attempts, Arto Ganderbal Arif Ahmad did not respond to phone calls from this reporter.
