Anganwadi workers protest in Pulwama, demand wages

PULWAMA, Aug 3: A group of Anganwadi workers in Aripal tehsil of Pulwama district on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration, demanding release of their pending wages.

The aggrieved workers assembled near the block office in Aripal tehsil, and were seeking release of pending wages, arrears besides hike in their pay.

One of the Anganwadi workers, namely Naziya Akhtar has said that their wages of the last 3-4 months are yet to be released, due to which they face hardships.

She told Kashmir Despatch that their families get affected in view of delay in releasing their pending wages from the last three to four months, and arrears from the last three years.

Another worker told Kashmir Despatch that they work side by side with all the departments, and even deliver their duties on holidays, “but are being deprived of wages for several months.”

The protesting workers have unanimously requested higher officials including the Mission Director of ICDS to release their pay, and fulfill all their demands.

Meanwhile, DDC member for Aripal Block, Manzoor Ganaie has also appealed to the Governor administration and central government to release the pay of GRS employees of Block department, and Anganwadi workers at the earliest.

He said: “They already get meager salaries, and should get it timely, as they are having many responsibilities.”
