SRINAGAR, Oct 26: The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Wednesday predicted another spell of rain in the plains and snow in the middle and higher reaches from November 1st to November 6th of this year.
Mukhtar Ahmad, Deputy Director MeT, told Kashmir Despatch that while the weather in Kashmir is expected to remain dry till October 31st , there are chances of rain in the plains and light snow in the valley’s middle and upper reaches after the midnight of 31st of October.
He said in the next few days there will be a decrease in day temperatures and the evenings will become colder. The MeT officer advised fruit growers to speed up apple harvest in order to avoid damages to the trees and fruit yield before another spell of rain and snowfall.
Pertinent to mention here that the valley has been witnessing snowfall in the month of November for many years, resulting in damages to the un-harvested fruit, trees and even uprooting of trees at many places in Kashmir.
In the last two years, untimely snow caused massive damages to orchards by uprooting the harvest lying in the orchards.
