Army Commander Meets Kupwara Women Cricketers in Nagrota

Srinagar: 14 Dec : In a heartening development, the Army Commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, AVSM, interacted with a group of selected women cricket players who are currently participating in a tour to Pune as part of Operation Sadhbhavna. The initiative, aimed at promoting youth and women empowerment in the border regions of India, has successfully provided a platform for talented girls to showcase their cricketing skills.

This year, the championship saw a record participation of 16 teams, indicating the growing enthusiasm and interest among girls in cricket. The Army’s efforts to motivate and support these players have not only helped them enhance their skills but have also provided them with exposure to professional training and interaction with established players.

The selected players, accompanied by a Women Officer, JCO-IC, and two NCOs (NA and Coach), were flagged off from Patahiri Garrison on 12 Dec 23 for their 14-day tour. During their time in Pune, the players will have the opportunity to train with resident players, play matches at renowned national-level stadiums, and interact with national and Ranji players.

One of the highlights of their tour will be witnessing an exciting India versus Australia match in Mumbai. Additionally, the players will also get a chance to explore the local sights and immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

During the interaction, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi commended the selected players for their hard work and dedication. He encouraged them to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in all aspects of their lives and continue pursuing their dreams with determination.

This initiative by the Indian Army, in collaboration with the ASEEM Foundation, showcases the commitment towards promoting inclusivity, empowerment, and unity through sports. These talented women cricketers serve as inspirational role models for aspiring players across the country, proving that with passion and dedication, dreams can be realized.
