Pattan, Sep 04: An army officer has been injured in the initial stage of gunfight that broke out this morning in north Kashmir’s Pattan village.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that an Army Major identified as Rohit Mehra of 29 RR has been injured in the exchange of gunfire. He was rushed to MI hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
The officer however, said that firing has been stopped in the area while searches are underway.
Meanwhile, sources informed this newspaper that two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
Earlier a joint team of Army’s 29 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Yaropora village of Pattan following inputs about the presence of some militants.
The search operation turned into gunfight when hidding militants fired upon searching party.
