As many leaders quit PDP, others blame an ‘invisible hand’ for calling shots

Date:

No one has the authority to expel members in absence of President: Rafi Mir

Srinagar, Jan 10 : A day after People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) expelled its eight members from the basic membership of the party, six leaders including former MLA Yawar Mir Friday  tendered their resignations.

News agency RNA has learnt from reliable sources in the party that apart from Yawar, PDP youth leader Showkat Gayoor Andrabi, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Dr. Sammiullah, Muntazir Mohi-ud-din and Shah Mohammad Tantray have also put in their papers.

Confirming to news agency, Yawar Mir who represented Rafiabad Constituency in Mufti Mohamamd Syed and Mehbooba Mufti led governments told RNA that he has sent his resignation to the party.

The developments have come a day after PDP expelled its eight leaders including Yawar Mir’s father and former minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir for meeting the foreign envoy’s delegation in Srinagar.

But their expulsion has evoked sharp resentment among the leaders with many terming the move ‘illegal and in violation of the party’s constitution.’ Speaking to news agency, Party’s senior leader Mohamamd Rafi Mir Friday said that the expulsion of any member has to be recommended by the disciplinary committee and then approved by the president of the party which has not been done in the current case. He alleged that a huge conspiracy from some ‘invisible’ hand has been hatched to score personal points.

“If all the leaders are expelled where is the party? And who is expelling them when the disciplinary committee chairman and the party President are under detention for the last six months? Some people have been doing it from last one year. They expelled Tariq Hamid Karra, Altaf Bukhari Sahab, Imran Ansari and many others resulting in a chaos. Now they want to do it again and that will not be allowed,” Rafi Mir told RNA, adding that they were planning to meet for further course of action.

He added that no one in the party has the authority to remove members in absence of the disciplinary committee and the president. Another senior leader of the party while ridiculing the expulsion move told RNA that PDP was not anybody’s fiefdom and hinted something extraordinary happening  in coming days.

“I wonder the self styled party leaders who are issuing expulsion orders have never turned up to raise the sufferings of the people during last five months. They have not uttered a single word in the interest of people whom they betrayed brazenly. The question remains who was and is running this party in absence of its leadership,” he asked. RNA
