Asha workers protest in Sopore, demand medical kits

Srinagar, Apr 15 : Asha Workers in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday staged a protest against the government for failing to provide Personal Protection Equipments (PPE).

The Asha workers in Sopore assembled at MCH Sopore and alleged that the health department has failed to give them protection gears, thus putting their lives at risk.

One among the Asha workers, Aisha Begum told news agency— that “we are working on ground level in our respective areas to find out the travel history of people coming from outside Jammu and Kashmir or foreign countries. But, we have not been provided with any protective gear for the safety.”

They said they have bought masks and gloves by their own, adding that the government must provided medical kits to them.

Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sopore, Asif Khanday said that there are 250 Asha workers working in Sopore and it is not possible to give a medical kit to everyone. “We have framed a team of red zones and other affected areas in which 100 Asha workers are working and adequate kits have been provided to them–(KNO)
