Assistant Engineer Booked on Rape Charges in Banihal


SRINAGAR: Police in Banihal booked an Assistant Engineer (AE) of the Public Works Department on rape charges, Daily Excelsior reported.

The accused, Yawar Amin, who holds the position of assistant engineer in Samagra Shiksha Ramban, is currently evading arrest.

The 18-year-old girl, who was working as a domestic helper at Amin’s house for a fixed monthly wage of Rs 6000, alleged that he assaulted her when she was alone at his home.

Later, the victim, a resident of Soof Shali, Kokernag, Anantnag along with her father, visited the police station to report the incident.

Meanwhile, Police have registered a case in FIR No. 29/2024 under Sections 420/376/34 IPC at Police Station Banihal.

The accused is currently evading arrest, and efforts are underway by the police to apprehend him

“The victim was admitted in Hospital and her statement under Section 164 will be recorded on Monday,” SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar as quoted by Excelsior said.
