Assurance period over, JK Panchs, Sarpanchs await Home Minister’s ‘promise’ on Mobile phone restoration

Date:

Srinagar, Sep 18 :The assurances made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah with the delegation from Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat members over the restoration of communication services within 15-20 days have fallen flat on the ground leaving the Panchayat representatives fuming.

According to wire-service the Union Home Minister had assured delegation of JK Panchs and Sarpanchs on September 3 in New Delhi that the mobile services will be restored in Jammu and Kashmir within 15-20 days.

However, 15 days on, since the Union Home Minister made these assurances; the authorities have utterly failed to restore the services, thereby leaving people of Kashmir to suffer endlessly. The people of Kashmir are witnessing communication blackout since August 5, when the union government led by Narendra Modi abrogated Article 370 and divided Jammu and Kashmir State into two Union Territories.

Though landline services were restored by the authorities across Jammu and Kashmir, but the cellular services continued to remain suspended only across Kashmir with government informing that the services are continuously suspended to thwart provocations from across the Line of Control (LoC).

People in Kashmir have been facing immense hardships in absence of communication services, who appealed the authorities to restore the services at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

The suspension of these services was highlighted by the mainstream leaders of India as well as the US lawmakers who demanded an immediate end to the ongoing communication blackout in Kashmir.

The US lawmakers have also urged their president Donal Trump to press India to end the communication blackout that is ongoing since August 5.

Notably, the government has said that the other restrictions imposed post abrogation Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir were lifted and the restrictions on communication services will also be lifted soon. (KNO)
