Attendants suffer after MC seal hospital canteens in Anantnag
Anantnag, Mar 20, : Authorities in South Kashmir’s district Anantnag have asked NGO’s to stop distributing masks and other stuff in the premises of Government Medical College Hospital.
The directions came after the reports that some Non-Governmental Organizations distribute sub-standard masks among people in the hospital premises for cheap publicity.
The distribution process allows people to assemble at one place. From past couple of days, large gatherings were seen in the premises of GMC, Anantnag after some NGO’s distribute masks among attendants there.
“On the pretext of social work, we won’t like to put people at risk. We won’t allow gathering in the premises of the hospital. People are advised not to assemble at one place,” Principal GMC Hospital, Dr Showkat Jeelani told.
Meanwhile, patients and attendants at GMC Hospital and Maternity and Child Care Hospital in Anantnag are facing a lot of inconvenience after Municipal Committee Anantnag sealed canteens of these hospitals. “There is virtual lockdown and the district and we don’t know where to get food and other stuff,” said an attendant.
Canteen owner at Maternity and Child Care Hospital said that keys of the canteen were forcibly taken away from him.
Medical Superintendent GMC, Hospital, Dr Majid Mehrab said that matter has been taken with the District Development Commissioner and an appeal has been made to all these canteens to function normally.
Medical Superintendent, Maternity and Child Care Hospital, Dr SM Andrabi however said that he backs the decision of Municipal Committee. “It is a war like situation and we can’t allow the canteen inside the hospital to function. Attendants and patients have to take care of themselves,” he said.
Chairman Municipal Committee Anantnag, Hilal Ahmed Shah said that besides 2 hospital canteens, they have sealed 6 hotels and restaurants in the district. He added that canteens were sealed after reports surface that people in large numbers assemble there. (KNT)
