Srinagar, Jan 29 : Authorities have decided not to release four mainstream leaders including three Chief Ministers before conclusion of elections of vacant Panchayat seats.
Those who will be not released include three Chief Ministers -Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and peoples Conference Chief Sajad Gani Lone.
Sources told Srinagar based wire agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Home Ministry had sought opinion of Jammu and Kashmir police in the release of these leaders.
However top brass of J&K Police is not favour of releasing them before conclusion of vacant seats of Panchayats, sources told.
A top police official said that they are apprehensive that with their release, they might start public contact programmes which have potential to create law and order problem.
“Our priority is smooth conduct of elections on these vacant seats.
Notably, three Chief Ministers have been detained in their homes and 20 other senior political leaders including Sajad Gani Lone are lodged in MLA Hostel Srinagar.
