Wasanmarg Link Road In Shambles
ARJUMAND WANI
PULWAMA, June 17: Poor condition of link road connecting Wasanmarg village with Pulwama district headquarter via Charar-i-Sharief-Yusmarg road is giving a tough time to commuters since 2002 as driving on this 2-km stretch is not considered an easy job.
Wasanmarg having population about 1000 with almost 300 households is a far-flung village covered with tall and beautiful pine trees located on the fringes between Pulwama and Budgam districts.
The village in the Rajpora tehsil is about 25 kms away from district headquarter Pulwama.
As people cross through village, they have to make way through a 2-km only road connecting Wansanmarg with other parts of the area. “The road is not maintained since 2002 and have big potholes” said a commuter.
“As the road is not tarred since past two decades, dust and slush adds to the incontinence of the people,” he told Kashmir Despatch.
Hamid salam, a local resident said “If we have an emergency patient, be it a pregnant woman or someone else, we can’t get her to the hospital on time.”
Ashiq Hussain, a local resident while talking to Kashmir Despatch said that, “I had to bring a lot of stuff for daily use, but the commercial pickup vehicle refuses to drive here because the vehicle gets damaged.”
The villagers said that, they had appealed the administration many times for macadamization but no proper work has been done yet, they said that “last year the work was started but later stopped by the administration because the contractor was falling short of proper documents, since then we are suffering in hopelessness” they said.
Meanwhile Executive Engeeneer R&B Pulwama, while talking on the issue said that the contractor who was assigned the project under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) had some registration issues and on technical grounds, he was asked to stop the work but he cleared his registration.
He added that “due to low temperature, the work was not taken up.” Mr. Javaid also said that they have issued notice to the contractor to resume the work on the road, but he (the contractor) didn’t respond to that notice, he has to communicate if he doesn’t want to work.
“Now we will take a final call if the contractor didn’t respond to the notice, it will take 5-10 days to put it for fresh tender and the work will resume soon,” he said.
