Awareness program on ICPS, Juvenile Justice Act held at Baramulla

Baramulla, February 20: The District Child Welfare Unit Baramulla in collaboration with Elite organization held a day long Awareness program to sensitize the people about centrally launched Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and justice juvenile Act.

Delivering key note address, the legal probation Officer of Baramulla Unit, Mir Kaiser informed the participants about the role and responsibilities towards the child protection as a civilized society.

“The protection of children should be our top priority. ICPS provide a safety net to the children in need of care and protection besides the children in contact with law. The government established this full fledged service for their safety and security”
He further highlighted the issues of child sexual abuse and child labor.

“Previously, the violence against juveniles used to go unnoticed. There was no suitable mechanism to deal with children who needed immediate relief and rehabilitation. They were treated as adults and kept with hardcore criminals. The juvenile justice system along with ICPS came into force to provide a healthy and safe environment to these children”

“The main purpose of the service is to provide support to the susceptible children who have been the worst victims of the violence”
Addressing the gathering Member Child Welfare Committee, Baramulla Nazir Ahmad underscored the significance of the child rights
“The child rights are the fundamental rights. Every child has a privilege to live in a safe and secure environment as the future of any nation depends on the healthy blooming its children” he said
Child Protection Officer Institutional Care, Shnawaz shareef accentuated the need for raising the standards and establishment of the children homes in the districts.

‘The NGOs operating the child care institutions should make sure they run these institutions by adopting the proper guidelines mentioned in the ICPS. The child must not feel isolated or depressed in the institutional homes. They must be provided with home like environment so that they will not feel alien” he said.

The program was attended by the officials of the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile justice board members of the district.

Social worker DCPU baramulla presented the vote of thanks to the guests and participants. She also thanked the chairman of the elite organization for coordinating with the unit and providing the platform for such awareness programs which can go a long way in creating a healthy child protection system in the district.
