Karnah : Army in north Kashmir’s Karnah organised a daylong awareness program on ‘Drug Abuse and its evil impact on the society’ on Thursday.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that drug consumption and narcotics trafficking are two of the most serious problems in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the government’s reports on drugs and crime, Kashmir has 60,000 drug addicts, and the tehsil of Karnah could not keep itself out of this menace.
Unfortunately, Kandi village has the highest number of drug addicts’ cases in Tangdhar he said.
Keeping this in mind, the Indian Army selected a senior boys school in Kandi to address the prevailing issue at its core and draw maximum dividends out of the campaign.
The campaign witnessed huge participation from students, teachers, and locals, displaying the willingness of the people of Karnah to fight against this curse.
155 students of various age groups participated in the events. The campaign started with the “Painting Competition with an Anti-Drug Theme” A total of 94 paintings were submitted by the creative youths. Teams comprising of 46 students from six schools exhibit “Skit” to spread awareness against drugs. Speeches given by eight students mesmerised the huge crowd with their views against drug consumption and trafficking.
All the students were awarded a “Certificate of Participation” in this “Anti-Drug Campaign.”
The campaign culminated with the interaction of the Indian Army with the youths over tea and snacks the officer added.
