BARAMULLA, Aug 2: In a remarkable display optimism, the picturesque district of Baramulla has witnessed a surge in border tourism, bringing economic prosperity and joy to its inhabitants.

Following the abrogation of Article 370, the region has seen concerted efforts by the LG Manoj Sinha led administration and district officials to promote tourism and transform once inaccessible areas into thriving destinations.

Led by Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, the district administration has successfully unveiled hidden tourist gems, capturing the hearts of visitors with their breathtaking landscapes and serene environments amidst the Himalayas.

Among the key steps taken was the reopening of the Kaman Post, known as the “Bridge of Peace,” after its closure in 2018 due to militancy-related activities.

Now accessible to the public, with just an Aadhaar card for permission, the area has attracted over seventeen thousand tourists from different states in the past two months.

One such hidden gem is Babagail village in the Boniyar-Uri area, which has gained recognition as a village for border tourism.

The government’s allocation of home-stays and support for local culture has made it an inviting destination for tourists seeking tranquility and natural beauty.

Thrill-seeking trekkers have been drawn to sought-after destinations like Baba Fareed, Kandi, Rustom Nambla (TV Tower), Dana Nambla, Nambla Waterfall, Bosiya, Copra Peak, Dudran, Dana Dudran, Chotali, Zulfiqar View Point, Bilal Abad Garkote, Machichurand, Lachipora Wildlife Sanctuary, Limber Wildlife Sanctuary, Ghati, Gabaywar, and Vijji Top in the Uri subdivision.

The Nambla waterfall was set open for a two -day festival by district administration, drawing thousands of tourists to have a glimpse of the amazing waterfall in the Nambla area of Uri.

Moreover, areas like Ladua Ladoora in the Rafiabad region, once a route for infiltration, have embraced tourism wholeheartedly, with the district administration planning a tourism festival to further promote the region’s potential.

Beyond the influx of tourists, border tourism has proven to be an economic catalyst, generating employment opportunities for the local youth and fostering growth in the region. With dozens of trekking groups exploring the beauty of no man’s lands, Baramulla is now showcasing the wonders of Kashmir to the world.

A significant milestone in this resurgence was the first-ever snow festival in Mund Daji, organized by the district administration to establish the area as a major tourist destination. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm witnessed during the festival have ignited hopes for more such events in the future.

These tourism initiatives have not only brought economic opportunities but have also fostered peace in areas once marred by violence. With improved infrastructure, a focus on adventure tourism and ecotourism, and thriving home-stays, Baramulla is setting a path for a brighter and more prosperous future for its tourism industry.

The region’s picturesque destinations, warm hospitality, and rich cultural heritage have carved a special place for Baramulla on the tourism map, leaving visitors enchanted and locals beaming with happiness.

As the district continues to grow and evolve, it stands as a beacon of hope, proving that tourism can indeed transform lives and create a more prosperous and peaceful future for all.
