Bandipora Village sees light after Indian Independence

Date:

Bandipora, Jul 21 : After 75 years of Independence, Poswal Pati village of Srinder area in Kashmir’s Bandipora district got freedom from darkness by getting electricity for the first time on Thursday, under the Central Government’s Under Saubhagya Scheme.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the villagers used to light their homes with lanterns or earthen pots as the remote village was without electricity since independence. They now seem overjoyed as their long-pending demand for getting proper electricity has finally been fulfilled.

Expressing happiness over the development, the villagers said that the move has brought a change in the village on a ‘large scale’. “Due to non-availability of electricity, we were facing a lot of difficulties here,” Majeed Khan, a local said, adding that the villagers breathed a sigh of relief after accessing electricity.

“We are grateful to the district administration as our village has been provided with electricity for the first time,” said Salaam Khan, another local. “The students here were facing a lot of problems due to lack of electricity. Now they will also be able to breathe a sigh of relief,” he added.

Confirming that the area has been electrified for the first time, an official said they completed the project Saubhagya scheme very quickly considering the hardships of the people in the area—(KNO)
