Baramulla, July 06 : From a hotbed of militancy, stone-pelting, the youth of Baramulla in the northern region of Kashmir have completely transformed the scenario.
Today, along with establishing their own identity, they are playing a crucial role in elevating the status of Kashmir, and at the same time, inspiring the younger generation with their achievements.
After the abrogation of Article 370, not only did Kashmir witness development, but the youth here also showcased their talents and succeeded in writing success stories through their hard work.
Baramulla district in the Northern region of Kashmir has always been at the forefront in terms of achieving great heights, be it in education, sports, or any other field.
Baramulla has provided eminent personalities in the past who have not only made the district proud but have also represented Kashmir at the national and international levels. It is a proud moment for the people of Baramulla, as a son of the soil has become the first Kashmiri student to graduate from the world’s first AI Research University.
Hanan Gani, a resident of the Baramulla district, has made not only the Union territory Jammu and Kashmir proud but the whole nation by achieving a remarkable feat in the field of artificial intelligence.
Gani, who previously worked as a machine learning engineer at Samsung India, has now graduated with a Master’s degree in Machine Learning from the prestigious Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi.
MBZUAI, recognized as one of the world’s top 100 computer science universities, is the world’s first university dedicated solely to AI research. Gani was part of a diverse cohort of 101 students from 22 countries, with India being one of the top nationalities represented.
“It was a great experience working at Samsung, but I was keen to delve deeper into research and work on cutting-edge AI challenges,” said Gani. “At MBZUAI, I immersed myself in tackling complex problems, focusing on enabling algorithms to learn from limited data and improving the performance of multimodal models that learn from both images and text.”
Gani’s ICLR paper, which has already been cited more than 20 times, explores innovative methods to enhance the accuracy of text-to-image generation models. “My approach aims to produce images that accurately reflect the intricate details of the text prompt, addressing a longstanding challenge in the field,” Gani explained.
Reflecting on his experience at MBZUAI, Gani expressed deep gratitude for the guidance and support he received from his supervisors, Dr. Salman Khan, Dr. Muzammal Naseer, and Professor Fahad Khan. “I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with such experienced and knowledgeable mentors who have been instrumental in shaping my research journey.”
“My research on efficient learning methods has the potential to make AI more accessible in areas with limited resources and infrastructure,” Gani said. “I’m excited to continue this line of work and contribute to the advancement of AI technology for the greater good.”
“Reacting to Hanan’s success in becoming Kashmir’s first student to graduate from the world’s first AI Research University,” a group of social and political activists told Kashmir Despatch that in Kashmir, a region often synonymous with political turbulence, there lies a wellspring of untapped potential – its youth, and it is a time when the youth are channelizing their potential towards positive change, which is of paramount significance.”
“In the past five years, Kashmir has been moving towards greater heights with changing scenarios day in and day out, especially the role played by the youth in the overall scenario by writing their success stories in business, education, or in sports, the result of which has been very fruitful each day,” they said.
“There was an urgent need to shift the narrative from conflict to empowerment, from despair to hope. By channelizing the energies of youth towards positive avenues, and alhamdulillah, it’s been going in the right direction, and they are creating a brighter future for both the region and its young inhabitants,” they added.
“Youth empowerment in Kashmir is vital for fostering stability, development, and positive change, and it’s been observed since the past years, especially after the Abrogation of Article 370,” they said.
“By engaging and empowering young people through education, skill-building, and meaningful opportunities, the region can tap into its youth’s potential to drive social progress, economic growth, and a more inclusive society, and Hanan, like a bright mind, is an example who made the whole nation proud for this achievement,” they further added.
