BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 27: The District Administration Bandipora organised a day long orientation programme for the lady ambassadors for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Week, being celeberated from December 30.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza said the aim of BBBP week is to celebrate birth of girl child to ensure her education and good health.
He said the week will be celebrated in three phases in the 151 Panchayats of Bandipora district during which 151 lady ambassadors, designated by DC, will visit the Panchayats and participate in the BBBP week activities.
The first phase of BBBP week will be celebrated in 41 Panchayats of Bandipora and Arin block on December 31 while in second phase the week will be celebrated in 34 Panchayats of Hajin and Naidkhai block on January 01 and in 34 Panchayats of Aloosa and Bonakoot block on January 02. In eight Panchayats of Ganstan, Sumbal and Nowgam block the week will be celebrated on January 04.
It was given out that the Special Mahila Sabha will be organised at Panchayat level with participation of female Sarpanchs, doctors, health workers, retired female government employees including frontline workers of the government departments.
Joint Director Planning said that during the week long programme sex-wise data of births of the Panchayats will be collected, besides generating awareness on existing government schemes for women and girl child, prohibition of sex determination, menstrual hygiene and sexual and reproductive health.
He further said that special discussions will also be held on the importance of girl child with special emphasis on negative impact of declining sex-ratio on the society. The Sarpanchs will felicitate the mother of first girl child born in the preceding week.
It was given out that five best performing Panchayats or School Management Committees with primary weightage to enrolment of drop out girls will be felicitated and awarded at district level.
