SRINAGAR, June 22: As Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief ministers, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, are scheduled to attend a meeting of various opposition leaders in Patna-Bihar on June 23, Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that his party has not been invited to participate in the event.
Speaking to Kashmir Despatch, Bukhari said that his party has not been invited. He, however, said that Apni Party has dedicated itself to safeguard the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and participating in the events espousing big political ambitions seems in no way “beneficial for our people.”
Bhukari, while reacting to the former CMs’ visit to Bihar, said they are top leaders, while his party is focussed on the welfare of the J&K people through its humble efforts.
The opposition meeting has been called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to show opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The leaders of 18 political parties, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, will be attending the meeting in Patna.
Pertinently, after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of J&K into two UTs, both the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership have been opposing the policies of the BJP not only within Jammu and Kashmir but also across the country.
