Bijli Mahotsav celebrated at Bandipora under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya–Power @2047

Bandipora, 26 July: As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence,

The Ministry of Power in association with NHPC & KPDCL organized a ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Government Degree College, Patushay Bandipora, Patushay in Bandipora District of UT of J&K.

The Bijli Mahotsav was used as a platform to celebrate the collaboration between the state and the Centre Governments and highlight the key achievements of the power sector during last 8 years Including 169 GW of generation capacity added, transforming our country from power deficit to power surplus, 1.6 lakh ckm of transmission lines added, connecting entire country into one grid running on one frequency, emerging as largest integrated grid in the world, Achieved 100% village electrification (18,374) in 2018 and 100% household electrification (2.86 Cr),Rs 2.02 Lakh Cr outlay for system strengthening which has increased power supply in rural increased from 12 hours in 2015 to average 22.5 hours at present, Fastest-growing RE capacity – doubled from ~76 GW in 2014 to ~160 GW now, Achieved 40% RE Gen. capacity mix in 2021 and stands 4th globally.

The Bijli Mahotsav is being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of UjjwalBharat Ujjwal Bhavishya–Power @2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.

Shri Abdul Gani Bhat, Chairperson, DDC Bandipora inaugurated the Bijli Mahotsav by lighting the lamp. On this occasion, Kouser Shafeeq, Vice Chairperson, DDC, Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Owais Ahmed, Hop,Kishanganga Power Station, NHPC, Sh. Parag Saxena, senior officials of district administration and respected public representatives & school/ college students were also present. On the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth achieved by the power sector over the past few years. Various cultural programmes, nukkad
nataks and screening of short films on the power sector were organized. The event also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.
On this occasion, Shri Abdul Gani Bhat, Chairperson, DDC Bandipora while addressing the gathering said that the government is doing remarkable work in the field of electricity.

The local administration is implementing various schemes with the help of the Central government, and the public is getting benefited.

Dr. Owais Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, also expressed his view on this occasion.
Dr Owais highlighted the major achievements in power sector and stated that augmentation of power sector including inauguration of Patushai Grid station besides other grid stations gave a major boost to power sector in the district.
He lauded the efforts of the field level workers of PDD who despite challenges work during odd times to ensure uninterrupted power supply. He also urged people to pay electricity dues on time so that the government can provide better power supply to the people. He said improvement of power sector is a continuous process and the system is regularly being updated.
DC said that PDD department has done a tremendous job by providing Electricity to far flung areas where it could not have been otherwise imagined.

Numerous dignitaries graced the occasion which saw large turnouts of crowds from nearby villages and districts. Beneficiaries of various power schemes spoke about the development & benefits in their area and expressed thanks to power entities.

This programme was facilitated by NHPC. Dr. Owais Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner appreciated NHPC, PDD and KPDCL to organise program.
