SRINAGAR: Alleging that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is all out to ensure Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and District Development Council (DDC) elections are rigged and manipulated, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said how long will Election Commission ignore such malpractices.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba said a leader of the party Rouf Bhat has again been detained on the day when SMC election is being held in Srinagar.
“Government of India (GoI) by subverting democracy reminds me of the cycle of rigged elections in the past which is one of the reason J&K is in turmoil”, said Mehbooba, who headed a coalition government with BJP in the state resigned as Chief Minister in June 2018 when saffron party withdraw support.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter Mehbooba, who is the vice-president of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said, “ PDPs @RoufBhaat has been detained again on the day municipal election is being held in Srinagar. GOI by subverting democracy reminds me of the cycle of rigged elections in the past which is one of the reasons J&K is in turmoil. How long will @ECISVEEP ignore such malpractices?”.
She further said, “In 2002 BJPs Vajpayee ji promised & ensured free & fair elections in J&K. And in 2020 the very same BJP is going all out to ensure every election here from municipal to DDC is manipulated & rigged”. (Agencies)
