Border shelling : Half dozen animals killed, several houses damaged in Poonch

Poonch, May 26 : A half dozen animals were killed, several residential house on Tuesday morning were damaged in Poonch district as Indo Pak armies exchanged gunfire along line of control (LOC).

Official sources told Kashmir Despatch, The shelling from across the border in Balakote sector started early this morning prompting a strong retaliation by the Indian Army.

He said there was no report of any casualty on the Indian side, however, several residential house belonging to were damaged and also loss to livestock in the shelling.

An army official also confirmed to Kashmir Despatch and said, Pakistani army started the ceasefire violation by resorting to unprovoked small arms firing and mortar shelling on forward posts and village along line of control (LOC) at Balakote sector.The Indian Army gave a befitting response to silence the Pakistani guns, he said.

A dozen domestic animals in forward Sohala village were killed in the Balakote sector, A team, including health departments headed by the tehsildar Qadeer ul Rehman, were rushed to the forward areas to assess the losses, said Sahil Jandyal, Sub Divisional Magistrate to Kashmir Despatch. He said in the shelling many residential houses were also damaged.
