Bandipora, Sep 8: In a bold step towards women’s empowerment, Hamida Jaan from the Watapora area in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district has announced her candidacy for the upcoming assembly elections as an independent. Committed to serving the people of Bandipora, she promises a fresh approach if elected.
Hamida Jaan, a doctor by profession, expressed her dissatisfaction with the national political parties operating in Kashmir, accusing them of abandoning the people once they secure victory. “Kashmiris have been left to suffer while politicians forget their promises after being elected,” she told Kashmir Despatch.
She highlighted the lack of basic facilities in Bandipora, noting that many areas with potential for tourism remain underdeveloped. Her campaign is centered on creating employment opportunities, particularly for the educated youth in the region.
“Women have been confined to household roles for too long. I want to challenge these traditional barriers,” she asserted. “I hope the people of Bandipora will give new faces a chance to break the cycle of family politics.”
