CBI Arrests SMC Ward Officer While Accepting ₹10,000 Bribe in Srinagar

Srinagar, October 15: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a ward officer of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Srinagar, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, the CBI team laid a trap following a complaint and caught the officer red-handed while accepting the alleged bribe.

The arrested officer was identified as Sheikh Jameel Mohammad, who was holding the charge of Ward 18 (Safakadal) of the SMC, an official said.

In this connection, a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the CBI Police Station in Srinagar.
