Gyanesh Kumar interacts with grassroots election staff in Budgam, lauds field officials as the “pillars of democracy”
Srinagar, June 29: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, on Monday reviewed poll preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, asserting that India has emerged as a global leader in conducting free, fair and transparent elections.
During an interaction with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), supervisors, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and District Officers (DOs), Kumar described field-level election officials as the “pillars of democracy” and underscored their crucial role in strengthening the electoral process.
He said India’s voter registration, polling and counting processes are conducted with complete transparency and are simultaneously audited by political parties and candidates, making the country’s electoral system one of the most credible in the world.
Addressing the people of Jammu and Kashmir through the election staff, the CEC invited citizens to actively participate in the democratic process.
Kumar also highlighted that India currently chairs the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), saying the country’s electoral practices have become a global benchmark for transparency and credibility.
He extended his appreciation to all officials involved in the electoral machinery for their contribution to ensuring free and fair elections.
