Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar ( SKUAST-K) organized Kissan Diwas today on 23rd of December 2022 at KVK Campus.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Sajad Mohiudden Sr. Scientist & Head and attended by team of scientists from the KVK along with more than 100 progressive farmers of different specialised fields. Sr. Scientist and Head presented the overview of the programme and enlightened the farmers about the importance of this day and briefed them that this day is being celebrated throughout the country in the memory of India’s fifth Prime Minister Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh who was himself a small farmer before he became India’s Prime Minister in the year 1979.
Head KVK briefed the audience about the role played by Shri Choudry Charan Singh in the welfare and betterment of Indian farmers wherein several schemes were introduced to elevate the social status of Indian farming community. Head KVK encouraged the farmers for their supreme contribution in the field of agriculture and allied sectors to the overall social and economic development of the nation. KVK scientists also delivered lectures on different burning issues like excess use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and their adverse effects on human health and emphasis was laid for the adaptation of organic farming, natural farming, urban farming etc. in order to limit the use different chemicals for the cultivation of several food grains.
Farmers were also made aware about hydroponic production of different vegetables mainly lettuce, Spinach, Kale, etc. Scientists also disseminated awareness about importance of adaptation of urban forming in order to produce vegetables free from different chemical residues. Programme also saw the distribution of certificates among different trainees who were trained in different skill oriented programmes.
