Centre Approves Rs 2,093 Cr Outlay for Highway, Ropeway Projects in J&K

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari announced an allocation of Rs 2,093.92 crore for widening two highways and a ropeway project in Jammu and Kashmir.

An outlay of Rs 1404.94 crore has been approved for widening and strengthening the Rafiabad – Kupwara – Chowkibal – Tangdhar – Chamkot section of National Highway-701 under Project Beacon. This initiative aims to transform the 51 km route into two lanes, crucial for logistics and tourism in North Kashmir.

Additionally, an allocation of Rs 126.58 crore has been approved for the development, operation, and maintenance of a 1.5 km ropeway from SDA Parking to Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar district. This project, operating on the Hybrid Annuity Model, will provide panoramic views of Srinagar city and Dal Lake, offering safe and convenient transportation.

Furthermore, Rs 562.40 crore has been approved for the upgradation and strengthening of the Nashri-Chenani section of National Highway-244. This initiative, spanning 39.1 km in Udhampur and Ramban districts, aims to improve connectivity to Patnitop, a popular tourist destination in Jammu.

The projects are set to enhance economic development, tourism, and transportation in the region.
